What
is happening to our world! It is
becoming such a
dark
and gloomy place, and seems to be unraveling before our very eyes.
Could this be
the time of distress spoken of in the Bible? (Matthew 24: 21)

What do we do? Where do we go?
How can we be safe in a world that seems to be falling apart around us?
Is it even possible to be safe?
What can counteract the darkness of these days? Let’s consider, for a moment, the redeeming qualities of light. Light is productive (such as the beneficial effect of light on plant growth). It generates life and causes it to flourish.
Light is also something that makes things visible. Light shows us the way to go. Without light, we’d be groping in the darkness.
Darkness
is not able to overpower
light.
Just as a single candle can overcome a room filled with darkness, so also the
‘powers’ of darkness are overcome by the person who is the LIGHT of the world.
Jesus said, ‘Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the
light of life.’ (John
8: 12)
God says, ‘Put your faith in me (Jeremiah 17: 7). I will protect you. I will be your refuge.’ (Psalm 91: 2)
‘The
person who dwells in the secret place
of the
Most High
will remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty,
whose
power no foe can withstand.
I will say of the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety, and I am trusting him; for then he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from the ‘fatal plague.’
Though a thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand are dying around you, those evils will not touch you. If you make the LORD your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will come near you.’ (Psalm 91)
